Leadville is located in the heart of the central Colorado Rockies, at an elevation of two miles above sea level. This authentic, real wild west, historic mining town is nestled in a beautiful high mountain valley surrounded by the highest mountains in the state. So high that they are snow covered most of the year. Come to Leadville and enjoy the beauty of the Sawatch and Mosquito ranges, the fascinating history of the biggest gold and silver boom town there ever was! The people are friendly, the air is clean and refreshing, and enjoy Leadville, Colorado on its biggest weekend of the year!

Boom Days is always the first full weekend in August. Festival events span three days of fun, food, and recreational activities for the whole family. The weekend begins with a Friday night mini parade, a memorial dedication, followed by the Motorcycle Rodeo.

Throughout the weekend there are historic contests of individual mining skill, the Annual Gun Show sponsored by the Leadville Rod & Gun Club, and the street fair featuring a wide variety of vendors featuring artisans, arts and crafts, western merchandise, and savory foods not found elsewhere. There is also live entertainment throughout the weekend. Breakfast is served on the courthouse lawn on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Saturday is a fun-filled day starting with the popular Boom Days Parade, and followed by the Children's Events at LCHS, Children's Mining Events at the Elks Club parking lot. Adult activities continue all day on Harrison Avenue.

Vonnie's Voice 5k Walk/Run starting at 8:00 am & 10K Run starts at 7:45 am at Pitts Elementary/The Center on West 6th Street. This race is held annually on behalf of Vonnie Flores who was tragically taken from us in 2010. Proceeds from this race go to a college fund, The Advocates, and Coats for Kids at The Center. For more information check out their web site www.vonniesvoice5k.com.

Be sure to pick up a complete schedule of events at the information booth in front of the court house for more details, times and locations.

Sunday begins with Cowboy Church at the historic Tabor Opera House, breakfast on the Court House lawn, followed by the very popular and world-famous 21-mile International Pack Burro Race celebrating 66 years of teamwork! Check out the burros as they weigh in and register. Stake you claim on a burro race guess ticket and take home a large cash prize! While the burro race teams are out on the course look for other special events on Harrison Avenue, including a mosey race, cocktail waitress race, and a pie eating contest.

There is so much to see and do, come for the entire weekend. You'll be glad you did!

By Municipal Ordinance, Boom Days is a dog-free event. With so much happening, including the burros, No Dogs are allowed in the downtown area on or off a leash. Tickets will be issued to those who do not comply. Leadville does offer some doggie day care options for friendly dogs able to enjoy the company of other dogs. If you have brought your dog, please consider one of these options to ensure you and your dog enjoy your time in Leadville over Boom Days.

This year, and all those to follow, we hope to see you at Leadville Boom Days!

"Leadville Boom Days" is a Colorado Mountain Festival and historical celebration of the Old West, with gunslingers, burro races, contests of mining skill, and a street fair with over 100 food and craft booths.
